On the occasion of World Standard Day-2021, a webinar was organised by The Institution of Engineers (India), Anantapuram Local Centre on October 14, 2021. Prof. E. Keshava Reddy, Director of Evaluation, JNT University, Ananthapuramu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address he said that the 17 Sustainable Goals set by UN for its member countries are vital for a healthy planet. One of the key challenges to achieving these goals by 2030 is to measure the progress made in this direction and make amendments to our approach where ever necessary. Standards play the key role in providing a common and all acceptable yardstick for measurement of progress towards these goals. Apart from these, standards also contain valuable information and guidelines that can help member countries achieve the ambitious goals. National and International standards are available in each of these areas which must be used to achieving these sustainable development goals in a meaningful way. On this occasion, Chairman of IE(I), ALC, Prof. M.L.S. Deva Kumar said that World Standards Day is celebrated worldwide from October 1970 to October 14 every year to commemorate the foundation day of World Standards Organization (ISO). The purpose of celebrating this is to recognize and honor the contributions of various standards-setting experts. At the beginning of the program, the Local committee Member of Ananthapuram Local Centre Prof. G. Mamatha, welcomed all the guests. At the end of the programme, Prof. C. Sashidhar past chairman of IE(I), ALC thanked all the participants. A large number of senior engineers and scientists from various departments participated in the program.

On the occasion of World Habitat Day-2021, a Webinar was organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Anantapuram Local Centre on October 4, 2021. The theme for this year’s World Habitat Day as decided by “Accelerating Urban Action for a Carbon -free World”. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Sri. P.V.V.S. Murthy, Ex Commissioner, Ananthapuramu., who delivered the theme lecture. P.V.V.S. Murthy began his address by elaborating on the scaring effects of excessive carbon dioxide emissions, climate change and global warming on the human race. According to him the major concerns are-  Rise in global temperatures and melt down of glaciers- resulting in the increase of sea levels leading to the submergence of many coastal cities of the world; 2. Change in cropping patterns; 3. Increase in the frequency and severity of hurricane and storms; 4. Higher pollution levels leading to emergence of new diseases etc. He also said that unless and until emergency measures are taken to combat the present situation, it will become irreversible. According to some studies 2031 is the deadline year by which all out efforts need to be undertaken. For reversing the present situation, Prof. Shankar suggested adoption of following important measures:  Cities to have at-least 33% open green areas; concept of Biomorphic City and Community gardening be encouraged.  Thermal power energy be replaced with Solar and wind energy. For this purpose Energy Parks be established in Cities and Towns.  3. Concept of ‘Pedestrian First’ be followed; whereby transportation planning need to be revamped. Prof C. Shoba Bindu, Honorary Secretary, IEI, Local Centre welcomed the guests and informed in detail about the work, being carried out by Institution of Engineers (India). “Royal Charter Day” was celebrated on 09/09/2021 by Anantapuram Lcoal Centre through Webinar. On the occasion Chief Guest Prof. G. Ranga Janardhana Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JNT University Anantapur gave a very informative talk about the Institution and its activities. Prof. G. Ranga Janardhana informed that after the First World War, to give a boost to industrialization, an industrial commission under the President ship of Sir Thomas Holland was constituted (1916- 1918). In its report to the Govt. of India, the Commission recommended the establishment of an Institution, which would serve the cause the growth of Engineering sector in India. After much consultation IEI was registered under Indian Company Act 1913 in the year 1920 and formally inaugurated in 1921 by Lord Chelmsford, the then Viceroy and Governor General of India. The Institution was accorded Royal Charter in 1935 by British Emperor King George V “to promote and advance the Science and practice of Engineering in all its branches in India”. Prof. C. Sashidhar, Past chairman of Local centre speaking on the occasion said that the The Institution of Engineers (India) is a multi-disciplinary professional organization comprising 15 branches of engineering. The objective of the organization is to encourage and promote all fields of engineering. It provides a global platform for engineers to share their business interests / experiences. He said that after the establishment, the branches of the Institution gradually started spreading throughout India and abroad. Prof C. Shoba Bindu, Honorary Secretary, IEI, Local Centre welcomed the guests and informed in detail about the work, being carried out by Institution of Engineers (India). The Institution of Engineering (India) Anantapuram Local Centre was celebrated on the occasion of “World Environment Day” on 05th June 2021 online through webinar on the theme of ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker in the programme was Prof. G. Ranga Janardhana Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JNT University Anantapur Prof. G. Ranga Janardhana speaking on the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’, spoke about exploitation of resources on earth, excessive use of conventional energy, more than 40 C rise in temperature by the end of century, rising sea water levels, increase in temperature of ocean surfaces, giving rise to cyclonic storms and other reasons responsible for the destruction of eco system. Chairman Prof. M.L.S Deva Kumar, told that the ecosystem started deteriorating, when we started interfering with land, water and air. We should restore wetlands go for conservation for water, sustainable development of forest, focus on terrestrial and aquatic eco-system. He emphasised on reduce, reuse and recycle. Apart from growing trees and green cities, we should take up cleaning of rivers and coasts and reviving natural carbon sinks such a forests and peatlands. Past Chairman Prof. C. Sashidhar also spoke on the occasion and told that the decade 2021 to 2030 has been declared by UN to be launched as UN decade of Ecosystem restoration. By 2030 it is expected that various measures being adopted for ecosystem restoration could help close the climate emission gap by 20%. In the beginning Prof. C. The Institution of Engineers (India), Anantapuram Local Centre organized a technical Webinar on World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2021 on 17th May 2021 that was attended by over 49 eminent engineers, academicians, faculty members and research students from various universities of the state participated. On this occasion, the Chief Guest & Keynote speaker of the Prof. K. Rama Naidu, Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, JNT University, Ananthapuramu, emphasized the importance of communication and information technology in the economic and social development of the country. Keynote speaker Prof. K. Rama Naidu discussed in detail the use of telecommunication and artificial intelligence in the health care sector and the role of drones and robots in dealing with covid. He also spoke on the the importance of the use of tele-medicine with special reference to Covid-19. According to the World Health Organization standard, one doctor should be available to 1000 people, but there is only one doctor available for 1453 people in our country. This shortage of doctors can be overcome by providing tele-medicine facility. Corona Virus Detection System developed by Prof. Shukla based on Artificial Intelligence was the highlight of the session. On this occasion, Prof. M.L.S.Deva Kumar IE(I), Anantapuram Local Centre conducted the programme and discussed in detail the contribution of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence in dealing with Corona menace. In the beginning of the programme Prof. C. Shoba Bindu, Honorary Secretary welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and proposed the vote of thanks.
